Augustus Bridge Dresden Germany

Augustus Bridge (Augustusbrücke is the oldest bridge in the city of Dresden, Germany, crossing the Elbe river. The first documented bridge at the same location dates back to 1070. Between 1727 and 1731, under king Augustus II the Strong of Saxony, a new sandstone bridge was built. This bridge was replaced by the present bridge with 9 arches.
The impressive bridge, a massive arch bridge, consists of a core of compressed concrete, faced with sandstone. After being destroyed during World War II, the span was rebuilt in its original form. Today its official name is Friedrich-August-bridge.
