Cape Meares Lighthouse near Tillamook on the scenic Oregon Coast

Cape Meares Light, 217 feet above the pacific ocean, is an inactive lighthouse on the senic coast of Oregon. It is located on Cape Meares just south of Tillamook Bay. The lighthouse tower is made of sheet iron lined with bricks, the only one of its kind on the Oregon coast.
In 1938 Cape Meares was designated as a wildlife refuge especially for nesting seabirds. The surrounding vertical cliffs provide protected rookeries for numerous species. Trails lead from the main parking area to the lighthouse and viewpoints overlooking offshore islets inhabited by sea lions and nesting seabirds. Viewpoints are also a prime place for whale watching.
Also located here is a popular attraction: The Octopus Tree, an unusually large Sitka spruce named for its unique shape. It is a very unusual site to see so dont miss it.
