Fourth Presbyterian - A Chicago Sanctuary

Located in the heart of Chicago, Fourth Presbyterian Church may be Chicago's most recognizable house of worship. Completed in 1914, when Michigan Avenue was little more than a quiet, tree-lined street, the church is now a grounding influence in the midst of vertigo-inducing skyscrapers.

The part of the property most familiar to Magnificent Mile pedestrians is the tranquil courtyard, enclosed by Gothic walls on three sides and set off from the street by a cloister. Standing in the courtyard, with your back to Michigan Avenue and the John Hancock building, this beautiful courtyard feels almost like out of place amidst all the skyscrapers.

If you are strolling down Michigan Avenue, stop and admire 4th Pres. Church's Bedford limestone and rich ornamentation. Its courtyard is a quiet sanctuary from the stresses of city life. The cloisters and courtyard make for a most romantic setting.
