Sulphur Works - Lassen Volcanic National Park, CA

Lassen Volcanic National Park is the home of four types of volcanics, all of which have been active in recent geologic history.
In the 60 years since the last disturbance, the land has largely recovered but much evidence of the destruction remains, and the national park has many fascinating geothermal features including mud pools, hot springs and gas vents. They form part of an impressive mountainous landscape, partly forested, also containing steep glaciated valleys, cliffs, lakes and waterfalls, together with several other volcanic domes and ancient lava fields.
Sulphur Works is said to be the volcanic center of the ancestral Mount Tehama. As in many hydrothermally active areas, the rocks at Sulphur Works in Lassen Volcanic National Park have been chemically altered into bright-colored clays. It is a wonderful, otherworldly type of place, where you half way expect to see a dinosaur or two peering through the steaming ground and hissing vents.
