Deutsches Museum Munich - Meteorological Tower

To say that Germany is a museum lover's paradise is to understate the case. Germany's 4,000 or so museums cover an incredible range of subjects and inspire imagination, discovery and learning.

The Deutsches Museum (German Museum) in Munich (München), the capital of Bavaria, is proud to be one of the oldest and largest science and technology museums in the world. Since 1925, this Louvre of science and technology has led the way in documenting humanity's innovation. It boasts an impressive collection of historic artifacts, from the first electric dynamo, and the first automobile, to the laboratory bench where the atom was first split. Other highlights of the museum include exhibitions on astronomy, transportation, mining, printing, photography and many, many more. Thoroughly fascinating and amusingly hands-on, its historical exhibits can keep a science lover busy for days. If you bring the little ones, take them to "Kid’s Kingdom", an interactive section with hundreds of kid-friendly activities.

The tower, the symbol of the Deutsche Museum, can be seen from afar. The façade elements barometer, thermometer, hygrometer and anemometer can be readily seen. They represent what the tower primarily stands for: It’s all about the weather. In keeping with the original intended purpose, it still today houses a modern meteorological station high on the tower’s pole. Inside the tower, the Foucault pendulum swings and paintings of the history of industry take visitors back to the early days of the museum.

The Deutsches Museum - Masterpieces of technology and science - is informative, entertaining and lots of fun. Boredom is a thing of the past!
