LaSalle Street Chicago - Wall Street of the Midwest

Art Deco is an architectural style from the 1920's and early 30's. It attempted to express the modern world by the use of cubic forms, geometric ornament, and sleek surface materials.

While New York is the capital of the Art Deco skyscraper movement, Chicago has several extraordinary examples to offer.

One of the best is at the bottom end of the La Salle Street Corridor: The Chicago Board of Trade Building (CBOT) (141 W. Jackson Blvd.), outside and in, is the summit of Art Deco elegance, complete with a pyramidal roof crowned by an aluminum statue of Ceres, the Roman goddess of agriculture.

Being the world's oldest futures and options exchange as well as a national landmark, the Board of Trade in Chicago is a must-see for any history buff, or anyone with interests in the history of the stock market.
