Chicago - Skyscrapers are looking down on us

Far left: 1 South Wacker Drive

Designed by internationally renowned architect Helmut Jahn, the glossy skyscraper at 1 South Wacker is an architectural icon. Built in 1982, it predates the State of Illinois Center. Its reflective glass exteriors are boxes of black and blue-gray tints.
As you approach the building, the granite pavers, sleek polished granite walls and stainless steel accents throughout the plaza complement the building's original design while adding a soft, elegant signature to the building's curb appeal.

The shiny building is modern and unique with a strong attention to detail. Its tower has a cross-section like a football with its points chamfered. Despite the signature curviness of the structure the building is easy to navigate but your sense of balance can be thrown off when walking up and down the elliptical hallways.
The lobby is like a botanical garden, and its curvy outdoor planters are actually designed to withstand the impact of vehicles driven by terrorists.

Known as "The Gateway to the Loop", 10 and 30 South Wacker, each 520 ft, 40 floors, are twin towers flanking the 10 storey structure that houses the Chicago Mercantile Exchange. As the first phase of the two towers, 30 South Wacker was built with the adjoining Chicago Mercantile Exchange trading floor, and provides the entrance to this facility. Sawtooth corners create 16 corner offices per floor
