Harmony in Green and Blue - Manzanita Lake - Lassen Volcanic National Park, CA

Manzanita Lake, one of the most beautiful lakes in Lassen Volcanic National Park, lies in the extreme northwest portion of the park.
It was born only 300+ years ago, when the northeast dome of Chaos Crags collapsed in a cold air-cushioned incredibly fast (100 miles an hour) rock avalanche. The rockfall dammed Manzanita Creek, creating Manzanita Lake.
The high-alpine mountain lake is surrounded by dense, wildlife-rich forests, provides exceptional fly fishing on a catch and release basis and is prime bird-watching territory. It�s not a place for those seeking solitude, but very pretty nevertheless.
